At Wikunpanich Salapo, east of the Ping River on Charoen Muang Road, you will find quite possibly the best bao Chiang Mai has to offer. It is a long standing Chinese owned and operated Chiang Mai institution. Each bun is wrapped in a banana leaf for ease of consumption and kept warm in large steamers street side. Speaking of large steamers, they are cooked in the back of the store in a steamer so large it has its own pulley system.
